African Nursing Alliance is based in the United States and supports nursing and related charitable projects in Sierra Leone.

Our website is hosted on Wix, and we use an embedded Givebutter donation widget to accept online donations.

3. Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with us.

Contact information

Your name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, and communication preferences when you provide them.

Donation information

Donation amounts, dates, campaign selections, recurring donation details, transaction references, payment status, and information needed for donation acknowledgments, accounting, and donor support.

Payment credentials are collected through Givebutter and its payment providers. We may receive limited payment information, such as payment method type or partial account identifiers, where available through the platform.

Communications

Information you provide in emails, website forms, inquiries, feedback, or other correspondence.

Technical and usage information

Website systems and integrated services may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, referring pages, approximate location inferred from your IP address, and interaction or security logs.

Volunteer and participation information

If you apply for a volunteer role, event, or other opportunity, we may collect relevant information about your interests, availability, qualifications, and experience. Additional notices may apply to particular programs.

Materials you submit

Photographs, stories, testimonials, documents, or other materials you voluntarily provide.

Please do not submit medical records, identifiable patient information, government identification numbers, or other sensitive information through general website forms or ordinary email. If a program requires sensitive information, we will provide appropriate instructions and any additional notice required.

4. How We Collect Information

We obtain information:

  • Directly from you when you contact us, complete a form, donate, or participate in an activity.

  • Through Wix when you use website features we have enabled.

  • Through Givebutter and its payment providers when you make a donation.

  • Automatically through cookies, logs, and similar technologies, depending on the features enabled and your privacy choices.

  • From an authorized representative or project partner where necessary and lawful for a particular activity.

5. Wix Website Hosting

Our website is hosted on the Wix platform. Wix provides infrastructure and tools that support website operation, security, and enabled website features.

Information submitted through Wix-powered features, such as contact forms where enabled, may be stored or processed using Wix’s systems and service providers.

Wix may also process technical information associated with website visits. Its role and practices depend on the information and services involved.

For more information, review the Wix Privacy Policy.

Donations submitted through our Givebutter widget are handled through Givebutter and its payment providers.

6. How We Use Information

We use personal information as reasonably necessary to:

  • Receive, administer, and acknowledge donations.

  • Manage recurring gifts and respond to donation questions.

  • Maintain financial, tax, and organizational records.

  • Respond to inquiries and provide requested information.

  • Administer events, volunteer opportunities, and charitable activities.

  • Send organizational updates and fundraising communications, subject to applicable consent and opt-out requirements.

  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website.

  • Prevent fraud, investigate misuse, and resolve disputes.

  • Meet legal, regulatory, reporting, and recordkeeping obligations.

We seek appropriate permission before publishing identifiable testimonials, personal stories, or photographs where required.

7. Legal Bases Where Required

Where applicable law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on the basis appropriate to the activity. This may include:

  • Your consent.

  • Taking steps at your request or performing an agreement with you.

  • Compliance with legal obligations.

  • Legitimate interests, such as administering donations, responding to inquiries, maintaining security, and operating our organization, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it by contacting us or using the relevant privacy controls. Withdrawal does not affect processing lawfully carried out before withdrawal.

Visiting the website does not constitute consent to every use of personal information.

8. Donations Through Givebutter

We use an embedded Givebutter donation widget to accept online donations.

When you use the widget, Givebutter and its payment providers process information needed to facilitate your donation. This may include contact information, payment information, donation selections, technical information, and fraud-prevention information.

African Nursing Alliance receives donor and transaction information through Givebutter to administer contributions, maintain records, issue acknowledgments, and communicate with donors.

Givebutter may process some information independently for purposes described in its privacy policy. Its role may differ depending on the information and service involved.

Please review:

Public donor recognition

If a campaign offers public donor recognition, review the visibility or anonymity options before submitting your donation.

Choosing an anonymous public display does not necessarily prevent African Nursing Alliance, Givebutter, or payment providers from receiving information needed to process and administer the donation.

Recurring donations

You may manage recurring donations using the management link in your Givebutter donation emails or contact info@africannursingalliance.org for assistance.

Privacy requests

Contact us about donor information we hold. For information Givebutter processes independently, you may also need to contact Givebutter at support@givebutter.com.

9. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose personal information to the following recipients when reasonably necessary.

Service providers

Providers supporting website hosting, donations, payment processing, communications, recordkeeping, security, and other organizational functions. These include Wix and Givebutter.

Authorized personnel and advisers

Personnel, volunteers, accountants, legal advisers, and other authorized individuals who need information to perform their responsibilities.

Project partners

Partners supporting our activities in Sierra Leone or elsewhere, when disclosure is necessary for a specific activity and legally permitted. Donating to an overseas project does not, by itself, require sending donor contact details to that project.

Legal and protective purposes

Authorities or other recipients when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, prevent fraud, address security incidents, or respond to valid legal process.

Organizational changes

Relevant parties in connection with a lawful merger, restructuring, transfer of operations, or similar organizational change, subject to appropriate protections.

At your direction

Other recipients when you request or authorize disclosure.

10. Donor Lists and Advertising Technologies

We do not rent or sell our donor contact lists.

Disclosures needed to process donations, operate the website, and administer our activities are described in this policy.

Some advertising technologies can constitute a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under particular privacy laws even when no money is exchanged. If we use technologies covered by those requirements, we will provide the applicable notices and privacy choices.

Third-party services may have their own information practices and privacy controls.

11. Cookies and Similar Technologies

What these technologies are

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels, tags, and scripts.

These technologies may support website functions, remember preferences, measure usage, or enable embedded services.

Categories of technologies

The categories present depend on the website features and integrations enabled.

CategoryPurpose

Essential - Support security, network operation, requested transactions, and other core functions.

Preferences - Remember choices such as language or privacy settings.

Analytics - Measure website visits, interactions, and performance, where enabled.

Embedded services - Enable donation widgets, videos, social media content, or other third-party features. These services may also use analytics or advertising technologies.

A technology is not automatically essential simply because it is included in a widget or embedded feature.

Wix technologies

Our Wix-hosted website uses technologies that support website operation, security, and enabled features. Specific cookies, purposes, and durations depend on our website configuration.

Givebutter technologies

The Givebutter widget may use cookies or similar technologies and receive technical information when loaded or used. Givebutter’s privacy policy describes its processing practices.

Other embedded content

If we display third-party videos, social media content, or other external features, their providers may receive information about your device and interactions.

Duration

Session cookies generally expire when your browsing session ends. Persistent cookies remain until their expiration date or until deleted. Duration varies by provider, purpose, and configuration.

12. Managing Cookies and Privacy Signals

Where applicable law requires consent, optional cookies and similar technologies must not be activated before the required consent is obtained.

Where cookie controls are provided on the website, you can use them to accept, reject, or adjust optional categories and change your choices later.

You may also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking certain technologies may affect donation features or other website functions.

Rejecting optional cookies does not prevent all information processing. Essential functions, security logs, and information you voluntarily submit may still be processed.

Cookie controls on a Wix website may require additional configuration to address third-party integrations such as Givebutter.

If you cannot find or use the website’s privacy controls, contact info@africannursingalliance.org.

Global Privacy Control

Where applicable law requires us to recognize Global Privacy Control or another valid opt-out preference signal, we will honor it for the processing covered by that requirement.

Do Not Track

“Do Not Track” signals do not have a universally accepted implementation standard. Browser signals may not control third-party services independently; consult those services for their available choices.

13. International Processing and Sierra Leone Activities

African Nursing Alliance is based in the United States. Personal information may be processed in the United States or other countries where authorized service providers or project partners operate.

Those countries may have privacy laws that differ from those in your location.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we will use an appropriate transfer mechanism or another legally permitted basis. Merely visiting the website does not constitute explicit consent to a transfer where specific consent is required.

If participation in a Sierra Leone project requires sharing personal information with local partners, we will provide additional information where appropriate or legally required.

14. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, accounting, reporting, security, and dispute-resolution needs.

Retention depends on the information and its purpose:

  • Donation and financial records may be retained to satisfy tax, accounting, audit, and other legal obligations.

  • Inquiries are retained as needed to respond and maintain relevant correspondence.

  • Communication preferences may be retained to respect unsubscribe requests.

  • Volunteer and program records are retained according to the activity and applicable requirements.

  • Technical logs and cookie information are retained according to their purpose and service configuration.

When information is no longer needed, we seek to delete it securely or de-identify it, subject to backup cycles and lawful retention requirements.

15. Security and Incident Response

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the information we handle.

No website, payment system, or method of storage can be guaranteed completely secure. Please avoid sending sensitive information through ordinary email or general contact forms.

If a security incident occurs, we will assess it, take appropriate response measures, and notify affected individuals or authorities when required by applicable law. Notification requirements and deadlines depend on the law and circumstances involved.

16. Communications and Unsubscribing

You may unsubscribe from fundraising or promotional emails using the link in the message, where provided, or by emailing info@africannursingalliance.org.

We may continue sending necessary donation receipts, recurring-payment notices, responses to your requests, or other administrative communications.

We may retain limited information needed to continue respecting an unsubscribe request.

17. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, applicable law, and relevant exemptions, you may have rights to:

  • Request access to personal information.

  • Correct inaccurate information.

  • Request deletion.

  • Obtain a portable copy of certain information.

  • Restrict or object to certain processing.

  • Withdraw consent.

  • Opt out of covered sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling.

  • Appeal a decision concerning a privacy request.

  • Complain to an appropriate privacy regulator.

These rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions. Some records may need to be retained despite a deletion request.

To submit a request, email info@africannursingalliance.org with the subject line “Privacy Request.”

We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. Where a statutory right does not apply, we will consider reasonable requests consistent with our obligations and capabilities.

We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.

18. Verification, Authorized Agents, and Appeals

Verification

We may request information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and authority to make a request. Do not send government identification or sensitive documents unless we specifically arrange an appropriate method.

Authorized agents

Where applicable law permits an authorized agent to act for you, we may request evidence of authorization and any legally permitted identity verification.

Appeals

If we deny a request, you may ask us to reconsider by emailing info@africannursingalliance.org with the subject line “Privacy Request Appeal.”

Where an appeal right applies, we will follow the applicable requirements and explain available next steps. You may also contact the relevant regulator or enforcement authority.

19. Children’s Privacy

The website is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13 through general website forms or donation features. If you believe a child has provided information without appropriate authorization, contact info@africannursingalliance.org so we can assess and address it.

A parent or legal guardian should handle donations and registrations for individuals under 18 unless a specific program expressly provides another lawful arrangement.

Information about children participating in charitable programs, including photographs or stories, requires separate consideration of appropriate permissions, safeguarding, and applicable law.

20. Photographs, Stories, and Beneficiary Information

We seek appropriate authorization before publishing identifiable photographs, testimonials, or personal stories, particularly those involving children, patients, or other vulnerable individuals.

We aim to limit information disclosed publicly to what is appropriate for the intended purpose.

If you have concerns about a photograph or story identifying you or someone you are authorized to represent, contact info@africannursingalliance.org. We will review the concern and any applicable permissions or legal requirements.

21. Volunteer, Applicant, and Personnel Information

If you apply for a volunteer position, employment, or another role, we may collect information relevant to assessing qualifications and administering that relationship.

Background checks, professional credentials, health information, payroll details, or identity documents may require separate notices and secure collection methods.

This website policy does not replace notices or agreements specific to those activities.

22. External Links and Social Media

Our website may link to external websites or display third-party content.

When you interact with social media platforms, embedded content, or other external services, those providers may collect information under their own policies. We do not control their independent processing practices.

Review the relevant provider’s privacy information before submitting personal information.

23. Accessibility

If you need this policy in another format or assistance submitting a privacy request, email info@africannursingalliance.org.

We will work with you to provide a reasonable accessible way to communicate.

24. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our activities, website technologies, service providers, or legal obligations.

The updated policy will be posted with a revised effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before introducing materially different processing.
